Looking for things to do to keep the kids entertained this October half term? Dorchester is hosting an exciting range of events, all of which are running from 24th October until 2nd November! From record-breaking attempts to arts & crafts workshops and spooky trails, there are lots of things to get involved with to ensure enjoyment and thrills for the whole family throughout the spooktacular holidays.

Freaky Facts Trail

Freaky Fact Trail

Thursday 24th October – Wednesday 30th October, 8:00am – 4:00pm, Thorncombe Wood

This free event, held in Thorncombe Wood, will guide you through an adventurous trail around the reserve to look for wooden disks in the trees. These disks are full of fun and freaky facts about the wildlife in the reserve.

Pumpkin Trail

Kingston Maurward Halloween Events

Saturday 26th October – Saturday 2nd November, Kingston Maurward

Head to Kingston Manuward to hunt for pumpkins dotted around their gardens and animal park. Tickets cost £3.99 and prizes are included!

Broom Making Workshop

Saturday 26th October – Saturday 2nd November, Kingston Maurward

Join Kingston Maurward’s witches’ assistant in the enchanted Dingly Dell and make your very own witches’ broom to take home with you! Tickets cost £2.99 per child.

Paint a Pumpkin

Paint a pumpkin in Dorchester

Saturday 26th October, 10:30am & 1:30am, Blooming Chaos

Join Blooming Chaos for a spooky craft workshop where you can draw, design and paint your own pumpkin. Best of all, you get to take your masterpiece home, perfect for displaying proudly outside on Halloween or adding to your spooky collection indoors. Tickets cost £5 per person which includes all the materials and one medium pumpkin.

Spooktacular Dip Pen Calligraphy

Halloween in Brewery Square Dorchester

Monday 28th October – Thursday 31st October, all day, Brewery Square

Head to Dorchester’s Brewery Square to hunt for QR codes hiding in the shadows throughout the square. The spooky trail is happening all day from Monday to Thursday.

Spooky Crafts

Monday 28th October, 9am – 5pm, Brewery Square

Want to get creative this October half term and add to your collection of spooky decorations for your home? Join us at Brewery Square on Monday 28th October to create your own ghostly accessories and decorations to haunt your home. Fancy dress is highly encouraged, so grab your broomsticks and join us for a spellbinding crafting session!

Shivers & Shadows

Shivers & Shadows Halloween Show Dorchester

Monday 28th October, 11:30am, Dorchester Arts @ Corn Exchange

Warning: Recommended for brave children aged 6+ (accompanied by their scaredy-cat grown-ups)!

Prepare yourself for chills, thrills and plenty of laughs as Squashbox Theatre debuts its first-ever Halloween show! Your lively host, Craig, has inherited a mysterious old mansion from his Great Uncle Vladimir and he’s about to uncover all its eerie secrets. This show is a cauldron of spine-tingling excitement, packed with delightful scares and laugh-out-loud moments. It’s a frightfully entertaining experience for the whole family! Tickets are £10 (£8 for members) and £30 for a Family Ticket.

Circus Skills Workshop

Wednesday 30th October, 1:30pm – 3:30pm, Brewery Square

Are the kids looking to upskill their circus skills? Head down to Brewery Square on 30th October for a chance to learn and perform some thrillingly spooky tricks. It’s a fantastic way to get into the Halloween spirit while learning some cool tricks. Don’t forget to wear your ghost costumes for an extra spooky touch!

Halloween Craft Party

Thursday 31st October 2pm – 3pm, The Crafty Cuppa

Come down to the Crafty Cuppa to hear spooky stories and join in with games, get involved with craft activities and get some photo opportunities with Wednesday. The day isn’t complete without leaving with goody bags and stickers, and you’ll be leaving with plenty of those to enjoy! Tickets are £10 per child and the event is suitable for children aged 3+.

Record Breaking Attempt for Ghoulish Gathering

Thursday 31st October, 5:30pm – 8:00pm, Brewery Square

Dorchester is attempting to break the world record for the largest ghost gathering! Will you help us in achieving this pretty spooktacular mission?

Join us on Thursday 31st October at Brewery Square to be part of the costumed ghost gathering, where we’re going to attempt to break the previous record of 560 ghosts in one location! The record-breaking ghost gathering will fill the Square with an army of the undead, followed by a live band, dancing, entertainment and competitions. Make this Halloween one to remember with the family and join us in our record-breaking attempt.

Dorchester Ghost Walk

Thursday 31st October 8:00pm – 9:30pm, Kings Arms

Join us starting at the Kings Arms for a Halloween special ghost walk. During this thrilling adventure, you will discover Dorchester’s grisly history – Judge Jeffreys and the Bloody Assize, ghosts that haunt the taverns and the alleyway. Tickets are £7.50 for adults and £3 for children. No need to book, just turn up at the Kings Arms!
