The local community is proud to host an array of exciting events in celebration of Dorchester Pride Month this June! Throughout the month, we will see many Dorchester businesses hosting a range of exciting events in celebration of diversity and inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community.

From creative expression through DJing and poetry to family picnic days out and pride-themed markets, there’s something for everyone to get involved with, whether you’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community or a proud ally.

Pride Network Exhibition

Kicking off our Pride celebrations is a vibrant art exhibition at Dorset County Hospital! Our local hospital is proud to showcase a colourful display in honour of Pride Month, presented by our Pride Staff Network. This exhibition celebrates the diversity of their staff, LGBTQIA+ and allies, and reflects the spirit of our wider community. Everyone is warmly invited to visit and enjoy the artwork. You’ll find the exhibition in the courtyard, accessible via the North Wing, Entrance 1.

The exhibition runs throughout June and is open during hospital visiting hours.

Pride Trail

Throughout June, the Dorset Museum & Art Gallery are celebrating Pride Month by hosting a Pride Trail! Visitors will be invited to find six vibrant Pride flags scattered throughout the galleries, and to identify the objects related to iconic LGBTQIA+ people that appear in our collection. The trail is included in all ticket entries which you can either purchase on the door or online here.

Pride Poetry Night

Have a Pride poem you’d love to share? Vinyl Van invites you to share your creative works at their Pride Poetry Night! Just sign up on the night and entry is free! Donations are welcome and are used to raise funds for the Space Youth Project.

Youth Pride Café and Market

The Dorchester Youth & Community Centre is hosting a special Pride café and market to gather with friends and celebrate Pride Month! Come and take part in their collaborative art project, and while you’re there, grab some refreshments and browse the wonderful creations made by creative young people from our town. It’s free to visit! Just turn up to get involved.

Community Writing Workshop: Sylvia Townsend-Warner & Valentine Ackland

Poet Laureate are hosting a free creative writing workshop where you will find inspiration for new ideas, develop your unique voice and transform your ideas into written pieces. Visit their website to book your tickets.

Canteen Chill-Out

Vinyl Van is hosting a special Pride lunchtime tunes event at the Dorset County Hospital! It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate Pride Month with tunes with Marcia from the Vinyl Van.

Flame & Fame – Pride BBQ & Karaoke

Sydney Arms in Dorchester is celebrating Pride this Saturday with a special BBQ event. Join the crew from 1pm to relax and enjoy good food and sunshine in their beautiful beer garden, followed by an evening full of karaoke! Whether you’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community or a proud ally, everyone is welcome.

The Joy of Decks Pride Takeover!

The Joy of Decks at Vinyl Van

Get ready for a Pride-themed DJ event happening at Vinyl Van! It’s time to unleash your inner DJ and take over the decks with your hit tunes.  Bring your favourite tracks, share your sound, and get the vibe going. Everyone is welcome, no experience necessary! Just bring your music, step up to the booth and make the space your own.

Pride Family Picnic

Pride in the Park

Borough Gardens are hosting a Pride Family Picnic this Saturday to celebrate diversity, inclusion and unity in the heart of Dorchester. Bring your picnic blankets and loved ones for a vibrant afternoon with community stalls, family-friendly fun and feel-good music from the Vinyl Van spinning some sunny tunes. Delicious snacks are also available from the Kiosk in the Gardens. Free entry – all ages welcome!

Open Mic (OmniVerse Pride Takeover)

Omniverse Open Mike at Poet Laureate

Enjoy writing poems, stories and expressing storytelling through song? Jawbone are hosting an open mic night at The Poet Laureate for anyone wishing to unleash their storytelling creativity on stage. Their open mic night is open to all. If you would like to join, send them a message via their website to book your five minute slot.

Meals Out with Weymouth Gay Group

The Weymouth Gay Group are heading to Dorchester this month to host their monthly meals out meet up! The group will be meeting at Wagamama for their monthly meals-out meet up. It’s a great chance to connect, chat and enjoy good food together. Please email weymouthgaygroup@gmail.com to book your spot.
