From those that prefer to get out and about for their exercise to those that prefer to be in and out of a gym, we’ve included a wide range of options to help with that new year, new me resolution!
The Gym Group
The Gym Group is the latest addition to Dorchester’s lineup of gymnasiums. It is open 24 hours a day and is located next to The Co-op. The popular chain is thriving around the UK – gaining popularity for their ultramodern setting and convenient processes. After selecting your ideal sponsorship, you’ll have access to their FIIT app – where you can join courses, set goals, track progress, view current capacity in your gym and more. Beyond the futuristic-looking entry pods you’ll find a spacious gym decked out with cardio and resistance machines, changing rooms, free weights, yoga area and more.
The Gym Group is located at The Forum Centre on Trinity Street – DT1 1TT.

Dorchester Sports Centre
The Dorchester Sports Centre (also known as 1610) is a fully comprehensive sports centre offering many desired fitness facilities. These include a swimming pool, racquet courts and a gymnasium with a wide range of cardio and weights equipment.
There are also fitness classes you can participate in including ones that are water based that make use of their 25m swimming pool. These include Aqua HIIT, Body Conditioning, Fitness Pilates, Kettlebells, Aqua Move, Prama and more. More recently, 1610 have added fun and modern classes such as the Vibe Cycle and Pound – activities that incorporate energetic music and rhythm to spice up your workout. If you have little ones, 1610 offer fitness classes with children in Dorchester, such as their popular Mother and Baby class.

Anytime Fitness Dorchester
The gym at Anytime Fitness is open around the clock and has all the essential workout equipment including a wide range of cardio, weight and sports equipment for all functional needs. Equipment you can expect includes Battle Ropes, Plyometric Boxes, Cross Trainers, Spin Bikes, Stair Climbers and Cardio TVs.
The club membership comes with many fantastic perks: Fitness classes, private showers/changing rooms, discounts for members in surrounding restaraunts and free parking.
Anytime Fitness Dorchester is located at 2 Eldridge St, Brewery Square. The club is staffed Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm, Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm. However, members get independent access so once signed up, you can let yourself in via a fob whenever you wish during the day or night. Borough Gardens Gym
For those who prefer to exercise in the fresh air, the outside Gym at Borough Gardens is at the ready! The Gym is completely FREE to use, and features a good range of exercise equipment. These include a ping-pong table (though racquets and balls are not supplied, so bringing your own is necessary) exercise bike, leg press, chest press, and a back exercise machine, along with a rolling treadmill.
Borough Gardens can be found on Cornwall Rd, Dorchester, DT1 1RG. The gym is located round the corner (to the right) when entered from the North entrance.

Take a Walk
We’re spoilt when it comes to fantastic walking trails in and around Dorchester. Combine getting out for a walk with the stunning Dorset countryside. We recommend The Dorset Walk (Maiden Castle and Martinstown), Durnovaria Town Walk, and the Dorchester Town Trail Walk. And you can also take a dog along with you to share the beautiful scenery.

Dorchester Yoga
A visit to Dorchester Yoga is a great alternative to conventional exercise. They offer many different classes hosted in their studios in the town centre. There are classes suited to all experience levels, from starters wishing to get a taste in yoga with beginner classes to more advanced sessions for those looking to take it to the next stage. Dorchester yoga welcomes people in all age ranges and capabilities.
Weekly yoga classes include Beginners Yoga, Pilates, Chair Yoga, Kids Yoga, Tai Chi, Somatic Flow, and Pregnancy Yoga. You can also participate in Early Morning Meditation Classes to start your day with a clear mind.
