Another Success for the Dorchester BID – New Car Parking Spaces Secured at the Old Prison.
Friday, July 11th, 2014We’ve done it! After lengthy research and negotiations, the Dorchester BID has gained permission for use of the old Dorchester prison car park while the Ministry of Justice is looking for new owners. This is great news because it will help to alleviate the lack of spaces in the town centre, which we all know can make parking a bit tricky sometimes.
The new spaces will be available for business use in the daytime, and for residents in the evening. If you work in the town you can request a permit for parking in the prison car park, which will be valid from 8.30am to 6pm.
For residents, the permits entitle free overnight parking from 6pm to 8.30am, and are available to anyone who lives in close proximity to the prison.
There are around 40 spaces up for grabs on a first come first served basis – we hope and expect you’ll be able to use them for some time to come, but of course the MoJ are currently seeking new owners for the premises, so at some point they are no longer going to be usable. If you are interesting in obtaining a permit, please email us at info@dorchesterdorset.co.uk
The BID would like to say thank you to local MP Oliver Letwin and all the other parties who worked to help make this happen for Dorchester.
Yes please we would like a permit, l work and live in the town
