Summer Festivals in Dorchester

There’s a real buzz in the air in Dorchester. The sun is shining, the parks and open spaces are filling up with activity, and the town centre is alive with that summer shopping mood. Businesses are brimming with it too. With seasonal bakes popping up in the bakeries and summer fashion lining the high street. It’s all looking bright, and so is the sunshine.

That’s not all. Dorchester’s businesses and community are coming together to put on a brilliant run of events to get involved with over the summer months. Summer is always an exciting time for festivals here, and we always know there’ll be something good on the cards, with plenty of annual favourites returning year after year. It’s great to see so many of them back again this year (did somebody say cider festival?).

There’s a lot going on over the next couple of months to fill your summer calendar. Here’s the lowdown on the festivals happening in Dorchester this Summer.

Love Parks Day

Thursday 23rd July | Borough Gardens | 11am – 3pm

The annual Love Parks celebration is back in the beloved Borough Gardens in the centre of town. Come and celebrate one of Dorchester’s favourite green spaces, because the organisers have arranged something pretty special this year. Expect bouncy castles, Punch & Judy, nature arts, face painting, fun science, a treasure hunt, tennis and plenty more. The perfect excuse to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and appreciate a Dorchester park in full bloom.

Thomas Hardy Week

Saturday 25th July – 1st August | Dorchester (various venues) | All day

A whole week of celebration as the Thomas Hardy Society hosts a festival full of workshops, lectures, entertainment, walks and tours, all in honour of the great writer’s work. This is the Society’s 27th festival, back again after years of success. The full programme is packed with a range of exciting events, so if you’re a literature fan this is truly one not to miss. Everyone is welcome, but bookings must be made in advance via the Thomas Hardy Society’s website.

Dorset Food and Arts Festival

Saturday 1st August | The Great Field, Poundbury | 10am – 4pm

Looking to discover new local foods, drinks and art? There’s no better place to head than this once-a-year market at Poundbury on 1st August. The Dorset Food and Arts Festival is always a hit with locals and visitors, and it’s easy to see why. The sheer diversity of stalls and the wonderful finds on offer. All locally produced in the heart of the south west, this is a must if you’re after fresh local produce, handmade treasures and homemade treats. It’s one of those events locals plan their week around. Too good to miss.

One World Festival

Saturday 8th August | Borough Gardens | 11am – 4pm

Now you’ve discovered local treasures, it’s time to expand the taste buds and introduce the family to new foods and cultures from across the world. The annual One World Festival is back in Dorchester for a celebration of cultures from Ukraine, Syria, the Caribbean, Asia, Mexico and more.

Taste dishes from around the globe at the different stands, all serving up the best of their cuisines, while you enjoy a Ukrainian dance show and funky Caribbean reggae. It’s a festival that comes alive with so many different cultures, where you can learn something new through immersive workshops, find your next favourite cuisine and pick up a tune or two for your playlist.

Best of all, it’s free to join. Just head to Borough Gardens and learn something new about the world this summer.

Cider Festival

Saturday 15th August | Borough Gardens | 2pm – 10pm

Speaking of Borough Gardens events, here’s the one that just keeps on giving. It’s time to find your new favourite supplier as the annual Cider Festival returns to Dorchester. Local cider makers will be heading into town for an afternoon of tasting, music and celebration. Find your next favourite pint and open your tastebuds to all sorts: cloudy, fruity, dry, sparkling. You name it, you’ll find it.

Festival of Palestinian Culture

Saturday 22nd August | Borough Gardens | 11am-  4pm

Come and celebrate Palestinian culture in Borough Gardens this summer, with a full day of activities, music and events celebrating the vibrant cultural heritage of the Palestinian people. Find something unique at the local market, try something new at one of the pop-up food stands, discover a hobby at one of the workshops, and enjoy a live music set. A wonderful celebration you really won’t want to miss.

Anonymous Festival 2026

Anonymous Festival at Maumbury Rings

Monday 31st August | Borough Gardens | 11am–5pm

Now in its 16th year, the hugely popular Anonymous Festival returns to Borough Gardens to see out the final bank holiday of the summer. Come and discover your next favourite local artist, because the line-up is shaping up nicely with plenty of talented performers playing live sets and DJing. That’s not all, alongside the music there’s fun inflatables, craft workshops and more, plus a lovely selection of food vendors, so there’s plenty to explore.

And it’s free to attend. Come on down and soak up the excitement.
