Your Guide to Dorchester Carnival 2014Wednesday, June 11th, 2014
It’s Carnival time again in Dorchester!
Signalling the official start of the summer in the county town, the carnival will take place this weekend, with events kicking off on Friday and culminating in the big procession and street fair on Saturday.
In a change to the previous format, the carnival’s organisers (Dorchester Round Table) have decided to divide the floats and groups into 4 different categories, with a prize of £100 awarded to each, and an extra £100 awarded to the overall winner.
The ever-popular Carnival Charity Pub Race will be returning on Friday, which is always a source of great entertainment and sore heads the next morning. It’s a four legged race around Dorchester’s best pubs, with all the teams hoping to make it to the end and be crowned Dorchester Pub Race champions 2014.
As well as the pub race, there will be an Italian market in Brewery Square on Friday, with lots of delicious Mediterranean treats for you to sample and purchase.
On Saturday, the place of the market will be taken by a street fair, with a host of different exciting and interesting stalls open throughout the day from 9am to 5pm. Across the street in the market car park there will be funfair, and there will also be live music in Brewery Square from 10am.
The main event is of course the procession, and that will begin at 6pm, before making its way around the town centre for everyone to see and enjoy. The 2014 theme is famous movies, so expect to see some funny and interesting takes on Hollywood classics and more recent blockbusters in this year’s parade.
