Bank Holiday Celebrations in Dorchester

Friday, June 8th, 2012

We may not have had much summer sun, but Dorchester still managed a hugely successful Jubilee bank holiday last weekend. The double whammy of Jubilee celebrations and Dorchester Festival events brought great numbers of people out into the town and it was great to see everyone getting into the party spirit.

The ‘Gigantasaurus’ was obviously a big highlight of the Festival, getting a enthusiastic response as it was paraded through the streets accompanied by the Jaipur Brass Band from India. Other performers at the Festival came from as far away as Senegal, Rajasthan, Argentina and Kwa-Zulu Natal. Well done to Dorchester Arts for bringing such a successful and eclectic event to our town!

And well done to everyone who organised their own street party over the weekend – seeing so many streets and sets of neighbours coming together to celebrate shows what a great community spirit we have here in Dorchester, and we can’t wait to see the celebrations still to come this summer for the carnival, the WW2 tank parade, and of course the arrival of the Olympic Games!
