Christmas Cracker 2014 Preview

Monday, December 1st, 2014 Dorchester Christmas Cracker 2014

The countdown has now begun to this year’s Christmas Cracker in Dorchester which marks the official start to Christmas in the town.

After a last minute hitch to get the final lights up has been overcome, the town is now ready for the festivities to begin. Contractors were unable at short notice to put up the lights in time for the big late-night festive shopping extravaganza. So a team from the town council and Dorchester BID, which both fund the Christmas lights along with West Dorset District Council, rallied round to get the job done.

The event on Thursday, 4th December, sees the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights at 6.30pm as part of an evening that includes masses of festive merriment from 5.30pm. Other events planned for the night include Town Crier competition, Christmas crafts market in the Corn Exchange, market stalls through the town centre plus the usual late night shopping happening throughout the town. Many shops will be open late with special offers. A range of stalls will be set up and there will be a hog roast and other seasonal goodies to try and buy. A Christmas craft fair will be in the Corn Exchange from 3pm to 9pm.

Many sci-fi characters from Star Wars, Star Trek and Dr Who who have proved popular at previous Cracker Nights, are also being welcomed back to the Dorset County Museum. It is hoped that Darth Vader and some of his Storm Troopers will be in Dorchester on the big night. Look out too for Father Christmas joining late night shoppers in the town centre.
