Christmas is a truly wonderful time of the year to be in Dorchester and the events calendar in 2019 is looking particularly appealing. Traditional events we love to enjoy each year are set to make a welcome return, as well as some exciting new attractions on the agenda.

There’s numerous festive themed celebrations taking place, so we’ve created a guide to help you plan your run up to the big day. Get ready to step into Christmas with all the family this year in Dorchester!

Dorchester Christmas Cracker

Celebrate the official start of Christmas in Dorchester at the annual Dorchester Christmas Cracker. The spectacular evening of festivities is back for another year on Thursday 5th December with late night shopping, craft fair, lantern making and the big Christmas light switch on in the town centre.

Christmas at Brewery Square

Tis the season when Brewery Square transforms into a fabulous winter wonderland. A great place to go with all the family, there’s even something to include canine companions this year! Here’s a rundown of all the key dates throughout December…

Christmas Lights Illumination & skating in the Square returns to Brewery Square – 30th November – 4-8pm

Late night shopping on Thursdays starts – 5th December – until 7pm

Buttermarket Christmas Market

Over 36 local businesses are coming together for the fourth Buttermarket Christmas Market in Poundbury. Shop the unique crafts for last minute gifts and sample the delicious seasonal food & drink on Saturday 7th December from 10am to 4pm.

Weldmar Frosty 5K Run

Weldmar are no strangers to organising fun run’s in Dorset. If you enjoyed the Colour Run and Bubble Rush in the summer, you’ll love their new Frosty 5K Run. Get the family together to take part family event this Christmas! The run starts at 10am at The Great Field, Poundbury on Sunday 15th December.

Carol singing in the Gardens

There’s nothing quite like wrapping up warm in a winter wooly hat and gloves and heading out for some jolly Christmas carols. If you enjoy singing along to heart-warming Christmas carols in December make a note of Thursday 19th December at 6:30pm for Carols in the beautiful Borough Gardens. Starting

Live Music in Antelope Walk

Antelope Walk is the home two family-friendly Christmas events to entice local shoppers and foodies alike. Two Saturday’s of music, food and special offers will grace the characterful arcade in Dorchester town centre. On Saturday 14th December Local Vocals Community Choir will perform a series of carols to add to the festive atmosphere. Meanwhile shoppers can enjoy complimentary homemade festive refreshments Celtic Kitchen and The Top End Deli. On Saturday 21st December, local artist Steve Faulkner will performing Christmas hits on his violin. On both days, Robin James Aveda are offering customers 10% off all Aveda products and Mirari Lingerie is offering 5% discount to purchases made on these dates.

Christmas Lights Switch On

Brewery Square kicks off a series of Christmas lights being switched on in Dorchester on Saturday 30th November. The lights are illuminated on South Street on Cracker Night on Thursday 5th December. The following evening, the Christmas tree lights at Buttermarket Square in Poundbury are lit up on Friday 6th December (5pm – 7:30pm).
