Dorchester Businesses – Get Tweeting!
Friday, May 27th, 2011Thanks to everyone who came to the Social Media Level Two Workshop on Tuesday – we covered a lot of ground, including Twitter, Facebook and blogs, so hopefully you found it productive and useful.
For those of you who weren’t there, one exciting idea that came from the workshop was to try and build up the Dorchester Twitter community – a great way for l0cal businesses to help each other spread their message and keep shoppers informed about their latest news and offers.

Twitter has become a hugely popular communication tool for people of all ages, including plenty of very high profile Tweeters such as Stephen Fry and Lord Alan Sugar.
It’s ideal for sharing little bits of information or ideas, as tweets are limited to 140 characters, and it can also be accessed via mobile phone. We think it could be enormously useful for local businesses, so it would be great to see a thriving community of twitterers develop in the town.
Dorchester Twitter Users
There are already several big twitter users in Dorchester, like Sienna Restaurant (@SiennaDorset), On The Table (@ONTHETABLESHOP) and Olives Et Al (@OlivesEtAl) but it would be great to see lots more. We collected everyone’s Twitter usernames at the social media event, which are listed here:

If you haven’t started using social media yet, but think you would like to learn some more about it, we’ll hopefully be running some more seminars in the near future. Email philg@dorchesterdorset.com if you’d be interested in taking part.
