Carnival Rescued by Brewery Square Developers
Saturday, May 14th, 2011Great news for local charities and Dorchester Carnival fans – the carnival has a new sponsor!
The Brewery Square Development Company has stepped forward to support this year’s event, which many of us feared was in dire straits after it lost its previous sponsor. This is of course a massive relief for the Dorchester Round Table and everyone involved in organising the carnival, who still have a lot of work to do with just over a month to go until the carnival takes place.
It’s a wonderful act of generosity by Brewery Square, as the carnival is not only great family fun, it also raises a lot of money for important local charities and community groups. Last year’s Dorchester carnival raised over £5000, which was passed on to 46 grateful local causes.
Heroes and Villains Procession
The date of this year’s carnival will be Saturday, June 18. The theme is heroes and villains, so expect lots of capes and costumes for the procession, as well as all the floats our creative local businesses and groups have made this year. You can still apply to be part of the procession by getting an application form from Ellis Ford. He can be reached on 07809 533251.
South Street Festivities
The main carnival procession will take place in the early evening, and there will also be a row of stalls along South Street, with food, drink and games. There will also be a stage at the end of South Street, with live music throughout the day.
Don’t forget there will also be the Party in the Park a couple of days earlier on the 16th June, with live music, a barbecue, and a variety of stalls to keep the whole family entertained.
