The Dorset Museum and Art Gallery is a key spot in Dorchester where you can explore the history of Dorset, from ancient times to today. Located right in town, the museum highlights local figures, like Thomas Hardy, and showcases the landscapes of the area. It’s a great place for both locals and visitors to learn and have fun.

In 2021, the museum unveiled a stunning transformation, having invested over £13 million into creating new permanent galleries and enhancing visitor amenities, including a modern library, shop, and café. Throughout the year, they host a variety of events, workshops, and exhibitions, making them the ideal contender for the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year.

On the culinary front, Al Molo, owned by Tim Newton and Giuseppe Vannucci, has established itself as a must-visit restaurant in Dorchester, earning its place as a finalist in the Restaurants of the Year category. This contemporary dining establishment has captured the hearts (and appetites) of locals and visitors alike!

Al Molo began in Weymouth and, thanks to its success, has now expanded to Dorchester. Located in one of Dorchester’s oldest buildings, which once housed the renowned Judge Jefferies, it features two Jacobean rooms and Tudor fireplaces. The restaurant emphasises freshly caught local fish and offers a contemporary twist on classic Italian cuisine.

Whether you’re exploring the fascinating exhibits at the museum or indulging in a delightful meal at Al Molo, these two establishments embody the best of what Dorchester can provide.

Wishing the best of luck to both finalists as they continue to shine in their respective categories.
