Winners of the Dorchester Favourite Business Award 2019 were presented at the Dorchester Business Improvement District AGM, which took place yesterday at Dorchester Corn Exchange.

The winner of Dorchester Favourite Business Award 2019

Many nominations were received from the public for over 100 Dorchester businesses. First place was awarded to Dodgson’s of Dorchester – the DIY hardware shop based on South Street. Having first opened in 1961, Dodgson’s is one of Dorchester’s longest standing businesses. “If you need it they’ve got it! Such friendly staff and so helpful.” – was among the praise given from voters for the winner of the award.

The award came as a surprise to business owner Glenn House, who collected the award on the night and said:

“When I came to the B.I.D AGM, I was aware that we had been nominated for ‘Dorchester’s favourite business 2019’ but I was overwhelmed that we were voted the top Business in Dorchester, especially as there were a total of 430 Businesses eligible. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody that voted for us, for which my staff and I are extremely grateful. Such a reward proves to me that we are doing the right thing, and we can display our award with pride.”

The Runners Up…

Second and third places went to Myra’s Kaiseki Japanese Restaurant and Dorchester Plaza Cinema.

Paul from Myra’s Kaiseki commented:

“Myra and I regard this award as an important sign of shared ownership. When our guests start to talk about the Restaurant as if it’s theirs, we begin to succeed. In this case they have gone a step further and chosen to share it with the Dorchester Business Community. This award is important to Myra and I as it brings a sense of being accepted and appreciated by The DBID members. This award will help with business, something which is necessary for Myras Restaurant long-term survival.”

Karla at Plaza Cinema also commented on the award:

“On behalf of the Management and Staff, we are very proud to receive this award as it’s the first award that the Plaza has ever received! It’s so nice to be appreciated by the people in the town, so a BIG thank you goes out to everyone who voted for us.”

Feedback from voters

The venue is the perfect combination of East Meets West with some interesting and beautiful pieces of Turkish culture decorating the venue.”

Kwikfit Dorchester

“Always go the extra mile (no pun intended) with their friendly service and whenever I drop in at short notice! Even yesterday when there were so many road closures around and through the town centre, the boys stayed opened and it was service as usual!”

The Convivial Rabbit

“Always a warm welcome. A great relaxed atmosphere with well kept ales. They are supportive to us, we work together to promote each other.”

Tom Browns Pub

“Always a warm welcome, so supportive to us right from when we first opened. Working so hard to come up with creative ways to raise money and help the community.”
