Dorchester Marathon 2017
Wednesday, April 26th, 2017Dorchester Marathon runners to pound streets for the first time.
Hot on the heels of the London Marathon comes a brand new running event for Dorset. For the first time the county town of Dorchester will be hosting a marathon and half marathon on Sunday 28th May 2017.

Local businesses and organisations including Dorchester BID have really got behind the event and provided sponsorship for the inaugural race.
Dorchester BID Manager Phil Gordon commented: “We are really proud to be one of the sponsors of the first marathon for the town. We hope to have a great boost to the visitor numbers over the weekend for the businesses in town and showcase all the great shops and attractions that Dorchester has to offer.”
The event has proved so popular that entry to both events are now full. However organisers are still looking for volunteers to help out with marshalling the route. Organisers will provide details of the course and road closures, guidance and maps for motorists, a phone contact for instant help or a radio phone if no signal as well as a high vis jacket while you are on duty.
If you are able please come and help run this new community event for the benefit of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, together with local charities and good causes in the Dorchester Area. For more details please email jadorchestermarathon@gmail.com
Runners will be sent on their way with bells ringing in their ears, thanks to town crier, Alistair Chisholm. Mr Chisholm, who has carried out the role as town crier for 20 years, will set the runners off with a ring of his bell and a cry which he has penned especially for the event.
Dorchester Marathon 2017 Route
The marathon route aims to challenge runners across the 26.2 miles with breathtaking views across Dorset countryside. The marathon route will take runners out from Dorchester through West Stafford, Woodsford, Tincleton then out to Throop. The route then returns back through the Puddles of Affpuddle, Tolpuddle and Puddletown where it joins in with the half marathon route before the final stage back towards Dorchester.

Dorchester Half Marathon 2017 Route
The half marathon route goes out of Dorchester and heads off of the West Stafford bypass down towards Lower Bockhampton passed Kingston Maurward College then along the picturesque country roads towards Puddletown. Here runners will join in the marathon route for way back to Dorchester.

Good luck to all the Dorchester Marathon runners for the big day!
