Skate Jam 2011
Friday, May 6th, 2011
Dorchester is gearing up for yet another big event this weekend – the third annual Skate Jam.
Taking place on Saturday at Dorchester Skate Park by Maumbury Rings, the Skate Jam is a highlight in the calendar for Dorchester’s skating and biking community, and organizers are hoping it will be the biggest and most successful one yet.
The mini festival will feature displays from teams of skaters and BMXers who will be wowing onlookers with their repertoire of dazzling tricks and stunts.
It’s not all about watching though, as everyone will get the chance to take part themselves. Anyone who wants to is invited to bring their own skateboards and bikes down to join in the fun themselves, although children under 9 must bring a parent for permission.
While the core event is based around skating and BMXing, there will a number of other exciting things going on, including slacklining (it’s a bit like tightrope walking), a hands-on graffiti workshop and parkour (also known as free running).
For younger kids there will also be a bouncy castle, Scalextric and junior skating sessions on a mobile skatepark.
The event has been organized by the Skate Park Committee, who have managed to secure some super sponsors for the event, including Total BMX, Vans, Extreme Pie, Independent, Bones, Wethepeople and We Are Level.
Food and drinks will be available at the event, along with a raffle to win a highly sought-after BMX frame provided by sponsors Deluxe BMX.
The skate jam is open to people of all ages, but all participants are advised to bring proper safety gear and a helmet.
