The Dorset Food Week 2010 got off to a great start this weekend with lots going on in Dorchester to tantalise the local tastebuds.

The Festival of Food events are taking place throughout Dorset and runs all this half-term week from Saturday 23rd to Sunday 31st October with something for adults and also lots to do for the kids.

Saturday the 23rd October saw Dorchester transformed into a foodies delight with over 50 local producers and businesses taking over the town centre with market stalls and food tasting.

Dorchester Street Eat Day

Taking centre stage on the Street Eat Day was the demonstration kitchen where local chefs were showing off their cullinary skills and giving expert advice.

Kim Newman Wood, food writer and finalist of ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish, kicked of the day – showing how painless cooking can be when you have a glass of Champagne in your hand.

Then came Matt Follas from The Wild Garlic in Beaminister who showed of his skills that took him to win the Master Chef title of 2009.

At the end of the afternoon Dorchester’s very own Russell Brown from Sienna talked through some great dishes that showcased his talent, and demonstrated why he and his restaurant have been awarded the first Michelin Star in the county for 22 years.

If you missed the Street Eat in Dorchester there is still plenty of things going on around the county this week.

Food Tasting

This coming Wednesday, the town’s award winning Tourist Information Centre (TIC) will be hosting a food tasting event between 10am to 3pm.

During the day there will be food demonstrations from a Michelin Star Chef from Sienna Restaurant, food tasting, information stands and a tombola competition to win some great prizes such as meals for two at local restaurants, wine and vouchers.

All proceeds raised at the TIC event will go to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
