New Swimming Pool Now Open!
Wednesday, October 31st, 2012It’s all happening in Dorchester at the moment! The latest phase of Brewery Square has just opened with a new Carluccio’s restaurant and top of the range cinema, and in the very same week our long-awaited swimming pool has opened its doors on Coburg Road.
It was officially opened last Monday, so by now many of you will have already have gone down for a swim and got a first impression of the place. The pool itself is 25 metres long with 6 lanes and a spectator gallery, meaning that as well as being a great place for the casual swimmer, it is also a top class sports facility that can be used for training and competitions.
Already the pool has played host to the Dorchester and District Lions 30th Swimarathon, in which more than 150 people took part and almost £4000 was raised for charity.
The pool is the centrepiece of the £8million new Dorchester Sports Centre, which also contains a 50 station fitness studio and a dance studio. It replaces the Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre, which was shared between the public and Thomas Hardye School.
While it is open to the general public for most of the time, there will also be designated periods throughout the week when the pool will be used by schools and for swimming lessons, and there will also be sessions restricted to adults only. A full colour coded timetable can be found here.
Have you tried out the pool yet? Were you impressed with the new facilities? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
