Olympic Torch Relay Comes To Town
Tuesday, July 10th, 2012
It’s nearly here! The Olympic Torch will soon be in Dorchester as part of its epic journey around the country ahead of the London 2012 Games.
At the time of writing everything is a bit up in the air, as the not-so-summery weather we’ve been having over the last few days may mean that parts of the Dorset route have to be altered to avoid flooding.
Keep an eye on our Twitter feed though, and we’ll let you know if there are to be any changes that affect the Dorchester leg.
The Torch in Dorch!
The torch will arrive in Dorset early on Thursday morning, and make its way through the North of the county before reaching Dorchester at 1.49pm via Puddletown.
The torch relay will then run the whole length of the High Street, giving a great opportunity for everyone in the town centre to come and cheer the runners on, before continuing up Bridport Road towards Poundbury.
The new BID-funded flag brackets will be put to great use with 170 flags, each representing a different Olympic nation, flying in the High Street to greet the torch’s arrival. It should look fantastic!
There’s more information on the route available on the London 2012 website, and if you can’t make it out to see the torch in Dorchester you can watch it at home on their live video stream.
