Some Thoughts on BBC1’s Inside Out Feature on Weymouth and Dorchester
Friday, February 17th, 2012
We expect quite a few of you watched BBC1’s Inside Out programme this week, which returned to Dorchester and Weymouth to review their progress a year on from the previous report on the two towns.
What did you think of how we were presented? It was perhaps a little disappointing that so much more emphasis was put on the negative than the positive (although Weymouth definitely took more of a beating than Dorchester!). We would’ve appreciated a bit more time spent on the ways in which the town centre businesses here have worked together with the council to keep Dorchester largely vibrant and successful through the worst economic downturn in many decades.
As the programme said, 2012 is going to be a very big year for Dorchester, with the Jubilee and Olympic celebrations and the opening of the second phase of Brewery Square, as well as the continued expansion of Poundbury. Hopefully the BBC will come back to Dorchester again in a year’s time, and they will be able to do a much more optimistic piece on how the town is continuing to grow and attract businesses and shoppers here.
If you have any thoughts on the programme, why not let us know via the @DorchesterBID Twitter? If you missed it, it’s still available to watch on BBC iPlayer for the next couple of weeks here.
