Brewery Square is hosting the Copper Street Beer Festival across the long weekend, and it’s a brilliant excuse to pull up a chair, raise a glass, and soak up the atmosphere in one of Dorchester’s most lively spots. Classic Car Show
Brewery Square | 4th May
While you’re at Brewery Square, take a wander over to the Classic Car Show, a gorgeous display of vintage motors that’ll have petrolheads and casual admirers alike stopping in their tracks. Owners are on hand to share stories and knowledge, so don’t be shy. This is what community events are all about.
Dorchester Walking Festival
Across Dorchester | 2nd – 8th May
Think you know Dorchester? Think again. The annual Walking Festival returns for a full week of guided tours and scenic trails that reveal hidden paths, lesser-known corners, and a few surprises, even for lifelong locals. Dorset Spring Show
Birch Lane Showground | 9th – 10th May | 9am – 5pm
This is the big one for families. The Dorset Spring Show is back at Birch Lane Showground, bringing two days of high-octane entertainment including motocross stunts, BMX displays, Shetland pony racing and wild fire shows. Street in the Park
Borough Gardens | 9th May | 2pm – 7:30pm
Borough Gardens plays host to one of the most exciting events in the local music calendar, Street in the Park. A live DJ competition showcasing some of Dorchester’s most talented up-and-coming artists, battling it out for the top spot. Come for the music, stay for the atmosphere. It’s free, it’s fun, and you might just discover your new favourite DJ.
Dorchester Vegan Market
Maumbury Rings, Dorchester | 16th & 17th May
Back by popular demand (and with extra dates added this year), the Dorchester Vegan Market is returning to the iconic setting of Maumbury Rings. Vegan or not, there’s plenty to tempt you. Local producers, artisan food, unique gifts and a great community atmosphere all in one place. There’s also a date later in the summer, so if you fall in love with a supplier (and you will), you won’t have to wait long to stock up again.
Dorset Arts Week
Across Dorchester & beyond | 25th May – 9th June
The county’s biggest celebration of local art spills into Dorchester with a fantastic line-up of exhibiting artists. Over 250 creatives take part countywide, with Dorchester hosting some truly exceptional local talent, including Art at the Jubilee, Ina Pickard, Stella Bawden Hollis, John A Graham Art, and many more. Dorchester’s Victorian Street Fair
South Street | 31st May | 11am – 4pm
End the month in style… Victorian style, to be precise. South Street transforms for a day-long celebration of Dorchester’s rich history, with morris dancing, folk music, spinning demonstrations, and plenty of immersive entertainment inspired by the Thomas Hardy era. Come as you are, or go all-out in your finest Victorian costume for extra brownie points. It’s a wonderful way to bring the community together and celebrate what makes Dorchester so unique.
