It’s carnival time this weekend in Dorchester, but the question on everybody’s lips is ‘what is the weather going to do?’

The forecast certainly looks ominous, with rain predicted from Thursday right through to Sunday. However, we can take heart from the fact that the weather reporters have been wrong before, and thanks to our wonderfully unpredictable English climate, you can never really be sure what you’re going to get!

Of course, the carnival will go ahead regardless of the weather, starting with the four-legged race tonight around the Dorchester pubs.

The pub race starts at the Blue Raddle at 7pm, and includes pitstops at:

Tom Browns
The Kings Arms
The Junction
The George
The Ship

The finish line is the Royal Oak (Wetherspoons), although we somehow suspect that not all the entrants will make it that far! The winners will receive a trophy and the title of Dorchester Carnival Pub Race Champions 2011, so good luck to everyone taking part!

Meanwhile, some of you may have already seen the funfair setting up in the market car park on Maumbury Road – it will be opening at 6pm tonight, and will also be open on Friday and Saturday.

The big events of the weekend are obviously the Party in the Park in the Borough Gardens tomorrow and the Grand Procession on Saturday evening, which will be led by a rally of 100 motorbikes both classic and modern.

All carnival information you might need can be found on the carnival website, including event listings, the procession route and contact details for the carnival organisers.

We hope everyone has a great time this weekend – with 46 floats confirmed for the procession, this year’s Dorchester carnival has the potential to be one of the best ever! The theme this time is heroes and villains, so let’s hope the weather is not the villain of the piece!
