New Super Dorchester Tourist Information Point
Thursday, February 10th, 2022A new Dorchester Tourist Information resource has opened this week. The main Post Office on Trinity Street has now opened as the first Super Tourist Information Point (TIP).

Dorchester BID set up the TIP initiative initially and there are lots of locations across town where you can pick up leaflets and information about visiting Dorchester and we are so grateful to these premises for helping tourists out and promoting what Dorchester has to offer. What makes a super TIP different is the amount of information on offer.
First Super Tourist Information Point (TIP)
David Prince and the team at Dorchester Post Office have dedicated a substantial area of the shop to leaflets, What’s On information and Dorchester related gifts.
The Post Office is receiving no financial incentive to carry out the role but Dorchester Town Council and Dorchester BID have been supporting the team in collating materials and providing information.

The Super TIP was officially opened on 9th February 2022 by the Mayor and Mayoress of Dorchester. Cllr Gareth Jones, Mayor of Dorchester stated “We are hugely grateful to the Post Office for taking on this voluntary role. It is fantastic to have a dedicated location in town where visitors can pick up leaflets and find out about events.”
A wealth of Tourist Information
The new Discover Dorchester App and website (www.discoverdorchester.co.uk) created by Dorchester Town Council, Dorchester BID and the Tourism Partnership have a wealth of useful information for visitors that Post Office staff will be using to signpost visitors and help them make the most of their time in Dorchester.
Dorchester Tourism Partnership has also just published and printed a new leaflet for Dorchester highlighting attractions, free places to visits, local amenities and facilities. It has a handy map of Dorchester Town Centre and Poundbury – and is available to pick up at the new Super TIP.
Welcome Back Funding

Almost Directly across the road from Dorchester Post Office one of the shops have been given a facelift too using funding from the Welcome Back Fund which is money from the European Regional Development Fund. The windows and fascia of the old “Better Hearing” shop have been cleaned and replaced with smart new signage with useful tourist information for Dorchester, perfect for those visitors who have just arrived in the town on the bus.
Good afternoon,
how does a shop become a tourist information point? At the Weldmar bookshop on South Street, we often get people in asking us information and we wondered if becoming an official information point might be worthwhile?
